Twin grand slams in Senior softball

HOUGHTON - Emily Lahnala and Megan Yeo both hit grand slams for Jan Bruin-Slot Builders of the Keweenaw Little League in a 16-6 win over McDonalds (Portage Lake) in Senior (age 16-18) softball Wednesday at Gipp Recreation Complex.

Emily Erkkila was the winning pitcher, striking out seven.

In Major (age 11-12) softball at Chassell, Douglass Agency dropped Calumet Machine 16-6 in five innings.

Madelyn Pierner and Milly Hoskins shared pitching duties for the winners, while Briah Maki had three hits and Hoskins two.

In Minor (age 9-10) softball at Laurium, Favorites outslugged Midwest Loan 21-12.

In Portage Lake Little League minor play, J. Peltier Construction went to 4-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Tervo Agency.

J. Peltier put up three in the top of the first after Davin Hill tripled in two runs and scored on a passed ball, but Tervo picked up single runs in the next two innings before J. Peltier added insurance tallies in the third and fourth.

Shawn Ruotsala and Hill had two hits apiece. Hill drove in three runs and threw five hitless innings of relief with 14 strikeouts.

For Tervo, Chad Nordstrom and Shane Aho split pitching duties, with Nordstrom and Willard Bal delivering hits.

Auto Pro Glass and Tire topped Superior Service 5-3. Ethan Jarvela, Cody Sebbas and Austin Kinnunen combined forces on the mound, allowing six hits for the winners.

Abel Rajala had an RBI double for Superior Service.

Chassell VFW and Kissel Chevrolet engaged in a slugfest, with VFW prevailing 11-9.

Jiseung Choi had two singles and a double, while Sully Maki had a pair of singles. Choi and Eli Oldt pitched two innings apiece and both struck out six.

For Kissel, Tanner Larson had three singles, while Brady Schmeirer pitched in a triple and a single. Larson also had two innings on the mound with six K's.

Loading Zone II stopped CLK Electronics 8-2. Carter Crouch had three hits and combined with Connor Baccus on a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Cole Gregorie, Baccus and Jesse Hill added two hits apiece.
