HUBBELL - Jack Leroy Toyra, 75, of Hubbell and Davenport, Fla., passed away at the Omega House in Houghton on June 2, 2013.
He was born July 7, 1937, in Laurium, a son of Wilber and Aina (Jarvi) Toyra. He graduated from Dollar Bay High School and attended college near Detroit.
He was employed by Wayne County for a time and later operated a vending business in Kokomo, Ind., and Grand Rapids, Mich. In retirement years, he worked at McLain State Park and during the last few years, he maintained boat launches for the state park service.
Jack was married to Shirley (Fouch) in 1979 in Kokomo, Ind..
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet, the Sons of the American Legion and had been a member of the Teamsters.
The family wishes to thank the Omega House and Portage Hospice for the care that Jack received.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter, Gail.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Jay (Karen) Toyra of Lafayette, Ind., Jeffrey (Ildiko) Toyra of Chicago, Ill., and Jacqueline (Bill) King of Longwood, Fla.; step-children, Robert (Becky) Smith of Kokomo, Ind., Teresa (Kevin) Sale of Terre Haute, Ind., Gerald (Pam) Smith of Flora, Ind., and Susan (Rex) Criswell of Denison, Tex.; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Belopavlovich of Spooner, Wis.; numerous nieces, nephews and close cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, in Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet with Rev. Peter Vorhes to officiate. Friends may call for an hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Omega House or to Portage Hospice.
The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
