James “Jimmy” G. Bekkala

BOULDER, Colo. -James "Jimmy" G. Bekkala, 50, passed away on June 1, 2013, in Boulder, following an extended illness.

He was born in White Pine on May 24, 1963, to James Arthur Bekkala and Martha Susan Yates Bekkala, both of whom preceded him in death on September 3, 2012, and September 9, 1997, respectively.

Jimmy resided in White Pine during his youth, attending both the town's elementary and high schools until the Bekkala family moved to Lake wood, Colo. (a suburb of Denver) during the summer of 1979. For the next few years, he attended and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School. James excelled academically and participated in various sports as well as band.

Upon graduation from high school, Jimmy moved to Boulder and attended the University of Colorado, attaining a B.A. degree as well as an M.B.A.

His is survived by four siblings, John Richard (Julie) Bekkala of South Range, William Paul Bekkala of Los Angeles, Virginia Susan (Craig) Rautiola of Lincoln, Vt. and Ann Marie (Chris) McGorrian, currently residing in Germany; four niences, Kristen, Jennifer, Meredith and Abigail; two nephews, Craig and Connor; a great-nephew, Jackson; a great-niece, Karaliina; three aunts and uncles; seven cousins.

Cremation has taken place and he will be returned "home" to the Upper Peninsula with a memorial service to be held at the Ryan Funeral Home in Calumet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19. Pastor D.J. Rasner will officiate.

Following the memorial service, Jimmy's ashes will be laid to rest beside the graves of his parents in Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. After the services, the family will greet friends and family at a luncheon in Laurium,
