TAPIOLA - Otter Lake and Houghton scored victories in the Over 50 Softball League opener Thursday night.
Otter Lake scored five runs in the first inning and held on for an 8-5 win over South Range behind the pitching of Jed Denomie, who gave up just nine hits.
Dennis Salbashian paced the winners with three hits, while Tom Clisch, Andy Heikkinen, Jim Oikarinen, Pete Oikarinen and Denomie chipped in two raps apiece.
Brien Ricci and Dave Kaiponen laced two hits each for South Range. Joe Rossi was the losing hurler.
Houghton notched an 11-3 victory over Chassell in the other game as winning chucker Steve Dunstan scattered eight hits. Mitch Lake gave up 14 raps in losing it - three of those by Tom Merz.
Dick Franti, Jim Perron and Dave Usitalo added two raps apiece for the winners. Daryl Putala had two hits for Chassell.
