Susan (Vic) Pietila

HANCOCK - Susan Pietila, 69, a resident of Hancock, passed away at home, Thursday afternoon, June 27, 2013, following a lengthy illness.

She was born July 27, 1943, a daughter of the late Paul and Erma (Poyhonen) Kilpela. Sue was a graduate of Calumet High School with the class of 1961.

On July 7, 1963, she was united in marriage to Victor Pietila. The couple first resided in the Detroit area, then Atlantic Mine and for the past 19 years made their home in Hancock.

Mrs. Pietila was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Arthur; five brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law.

Surviving are her husband, Victor Pietila of Hancock; her childen, Tim (Sheri) Pietila of Howell, Mich., Mark (Anne) Pietila of Atlantic Mine, Lisa Pietila of Houghton, Kent (Kirsten) Pietila of Atlantic Mine, Nora (Mark) Halonen of Atlantic Mine, Sara (Dan) Halonen of Howell, John Paul (Connie) Pietila of Hancock and Peter (Nora) Pietila of Delano, Minn.; brothers and sisters, Peter (Barbara) Kilpela of Atlantic Mine, Pauline (the late Carl) Pietila of Hancock, Paul (Marilyn) Kilpela of Houghton, Kristiin (Douglas) Heinonen of Hancock, Judith (Steven) Kangas of Atlantic Mine and John (Judith) Kilpela of Chassell. Three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; 42 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Susan will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29 in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, June 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services in the church.
