HOUGHTON - A Houghton man accused of criminal sexual conduct appeared in Houghton County Circuit Court for a pretrial hearing Monday.

Chad LaPointe, 26, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13, a 15-year felony; fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a girl at least 13 years old but younger than 16, a two-year misdemeanor; and two counts of accosting a child for immoral purposes, a four-year felony.

Prosecutor Michael Makinen said the two cases involving the victim could be consolidated. He said he is working with LaPointe's attorney David Gemignani on resolving the cases.

Gemignani said the two cases could probably be combined if they were to go to trial, but he can't yet say definitively.

Another pretrial conference will take place in a week.
