Michael O. Syrjala

WATTON - Michael O. Syrjala, 64, of Watton, Mich., passed away suddenly Monday, July 8, 2013, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, in L'Anse.

He was born in Marquette on November 30, 1948, the son of the late Onnie and Helvi (Ahola) Syrjala.

Michael graduated from L'Anse High School in 1966. He worked at CCI for 35 years, retiring in 2003.

He married Mary Nelson in Amasa on November 1, 1969. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Covington.

Michael was proud that he was granted a Soil Conservation award, and was an active 4-H leader. He enjoyed working the farm and was known as a hard worker and a very special man. He was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the games.

Michael loved his dog and collecting all sorts of things.

Mr. Syrjala is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Jennifer (James) Revoyr of Hancock, Andrew (Nicole) Syrjala, Jeffery (Heidi) Syrjala, and Melanie Syrjala all of Watton; grandchildren, Kelsey, Mikayla, Andrea, Dustin, Kyle, and Rachel; great grandchild, Blake; sister Arlene (Russell) Tarvainen of Watton and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington, with Pastor Mark Reinsch officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel in L'Anse has been entrusted with the arrangements.
