ALSTON - Marianne Laila Keranen, 84, of Alston, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Cyprus Manor in Hancock.
She was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Baraga, daughter of Herman and Jenni (Hirvosniemi) Alatalo.
Marianne graduated from Baraga High School. She married Lauri Keranen in 1945. She later attended Suomi College.
She worked as a cook at numerous local restaurants and at Isle Royale National Park.
Marianne had a ceramic shop at her home and gave classes. She liked to play scrabble, go rock hunting, painting, writing and fishing.
Survived are her daughter, Kris (David) Kasten of Nisula; grandsons, Jim (Pam) Kantola of Burleson, Texas, Jeff Hautamaki of Corpus Christie, Texas; two great-grandsons, Bryan Kantola and Jason (Katlyn) Kantola of Corpus Christie, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Apple Rose; sister-in-law and best friend Elizabeth Alatalo of Baraga; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sons, Delbert and Kevin Keranen; brothers, Herman, Arvi, and John Alatalo; sisters, Selma Dompier, Frances Alatalo and Rose Mathes; and grandson, Jason.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15 at 11 a.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. John Autio officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in the Sharing Room in the Jacobson Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery.
