LAURIUM - Mary Jane Goraczniak, 91, of Laurium, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 20, 2013, with her family by her side at Garden View Assisted Li ing in Calumet where she had made her home for the past three years.

She was born April 26, 1922, in Laurium, a daughter of the late Edward and Winnifred (Bowden) McCormick. She graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1942.

On December 29, 1943, she married John "Jack" Goraczniak.

Mary worked as a private duty secretary in Detroit-Cadillac and at Millford Construction in Calumet. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and a Sunday School teacher.

She was a member of the Calumet Women's Club, Coppertown USA, the Calumet Lady Elks and the Calumet United Methodist Church and Women's Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; infant daughter, Faith Elizabeth Goraczniak; a granddaughter, Lisa Ann Newman; a brother, James McCormack; two sisters, Winnifred Nekervis and Barbara Sibbald.

Surviving are three daughters, Gail (Paul) Van Raalte of Lansing, Robin (Bob) Clouthier of Grand Rapids and Karen (Ed) LaBonte of Laurium; five grandchildren, Julie (Glenn) Sicam of Texas, Scott (Jennifer) LaBonte of Sault Ste. Marie, John Robert (Jaime) Clouthier of Traverse City, Jamie (Michael) Palma of Grand Rapids and Tim (Natasha) LaBonte of Marquette; seven special great grandchildren, Jessie and David Newman, Madison, Avery and Hallie LaBonte, Emma Sicam and Wes Palma; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and staff at Garden View Assisted Living in Calumet.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Calumet United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob White to officiate.

Friends may call in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral in the church. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
