Charles E. “Chuck” Gauthier

HANCOCK - Charles E. "Chuck" Gauthier, 72, of Hancock, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

He was born in Hancock, on November 27, 1940, a son of the late Edward and Helen (Sotala) Gauthier. He attended St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic School and graduated from the Houghton High School in 1959.

Chuck was employed for 45 years at the Daily Mining Gazette in Houghton, as an advertising sales representative.

On November 1, 1975, he was married to the former Alice Niemi. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2011.

Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1963 to 1964.

He was a member of Hope Fellowship in Houghton.

Chuck was a pet lover. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting deer, rabbits and partridge. He was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings.

Surviving are two sons and six grandchildren: Peter Holmes of New Ipswich, N.H. and his children, Nicole, Marcus and Jenna; Richard Holmes of Chassell and his children, Haily, Connor and Sylvia; a sister, Nancy Dorvinen of Houghton; nephews, Mike Dorvinen, Jim Dorvinen and Chuck Dorvinen; two brothers-in-law, David (Joan) Niemi of Ishpeming and Steven Manninen of Toivola; and numerous cousins.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; and his cat, Punkin.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility and Dr. Bonnie Hafeman for the wonderful care given to their dad and brother.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Hope Fellowship in Houghton, with Pastor Jon Kangas to officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday in the church. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
