LANSING - Lynn Stevens Olson Gareau, daughter of Clarke King Olson and Celia Pearce Olson, passed away on August 1, 2013, in Lansing following a brief illness.
She was born March 17, 1943, in Hancock, grew up in Lake Linden, attending Lake Linden public schools. She later graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., with an associate degree and from Northern Michigan University in Marquette with a Bachelors degree. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in visual art from Alma College where she also studied and taught ballet for several years.
Lynn was an accomplished Michigan visual artist who was featured in local and regional shows from the late 1960s to the present. Her work covered several mediums, but most were works in paper, including collage, drawing, pastels and photography.
She and her husband lived in Alma and Lansing for many years.
Lynn is survived by her son, Jay Russell Gareau; daughter-in-law, Heidi Tollefson Gareau; grandchildren, Hannah Kay and Lucas James Gareau; her father, Charles King Olson; brother, Chester Pearce Olson; sisters, Kathryn Olson Umbarger, Betsy Olson West and Deborah Olson Frontiera; several nieces and nephews.
In November, 2012, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Gareau, originally from Hubbell.
Funeral services will be held in Lansing at Delta Chapel, Palmer Bush and Jenson, 6020 West Saginaw Highway, Lansing, MI 48917. Viewing will be Wednesday evening, August 7, and funeral services will follow on Thursday.
