Annual gem and mineral show is this weekend

HOUGHTON - The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club will hold its annual Gem and Mineral Show this weekend.

The show will be at the Houghton Elementary School at the corner of Bridge and Jacker Streets in Houghton. Show hours are: from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and there will be door prizes and grab bags of minerals for children.

"The club has been running the show for many years. It is a source of geological and mineralogical goods for the Copper Country, as well as raising funds for club operations," said Norm Gruber, club president.

This year will feature a display of a cast of a Tyrannosaurus rex skull, a full-size 5-foot-long replica of an actual skeleton.

Dealer offerings at the show will include local and world-wide minerals, wire wrap and other jewelry, polished lapidary material, faceted gems, fossils, and historical stock certificates and papers.

The Rock and Mineral Club will have an ongoing silent auction of minerals and other materials.

They will also be selling magazines from the rock and mineral field and other educational items.

At the show there will be information available on the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club and on its activities and the benefits of membership.
