Paul ‘Poncho’ Brulla

BIG TRAVERSE BAY - Paul "Poncho" Brulla, 88, a resident of Big Traverse Bay, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

Paul was born on September 11, 1924, in Raymbaultown, a son of Matthew and Johanna (Metzella) Brulla. He attended the Sacred Heart School in Calumet.

Paul was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Paul worked for Thornton Construction in Hancock for 20 years and later for Lindberg Construction until he retired.

He enjoyed playing cards and spending time out at his home in Big Traverse.

He was an animal lover, especially his cat, "Kitty Mitts" and dog, "Blackie."

Poncho was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet and lifetime member of VFW Post 3900 of Calumet.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Matthew and mother, Johanna; three brothers- Frank, Matt, and Al; six sisters, Christine Certalic, Steph MacCario, Marie Seling, Anna Certalic, Joan Brulla, and Josephine Poplowski: two nephews, Jim Brulla and Gary Brulla.

Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Monday August 12, 2013, in Sacred Heart Church in Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

Friends may call at the church from 2 to 3 p.m.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

The Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with arrangements.
