L'ANSE - One of the two suspects in the alleged armed robbery of a home in Watton lodged in the Baraga County Jail on $1 million bond.

Donavan Waupoose, 21, was arraigned in 97th District Court in L'Anse Thursday.

Waupoose is one of two men alleged to have identified themselves as U.S. marshals at a home in Watton Aug. 1. They demanded $10,000 from the residents, then took wallets, identification and other documents. They fled the scene in a white Cadillac Escalade XT pickup.

He was arrested in his hometown Monday. In addition to the Watton burglary, evidence found at his home is alleged to tie him to a kidnapping in Long Lake, Wis.

Waupoose is charged with two counts of armed robbery, a felony punishable by life imprisonment; two counts of extortion, a 20-year felony; two counts of unlawful imprisonment, a 15-year felony; and a count of impersonating a police officer to commit a crime, a four-year felony.

The second suspect, Bernard Fish, 27, is still at large. Fish, a 5-foot, 11-inch 185-pound Native American, is believed to be in the Upper Peninsula or Wisconsin. Police say he is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Waupoose's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 27 in 97th District Court.
