ARVON TOWNSHIP - A 57-year-old L'Anse man was killed in a single-vehicle ATV accident Sunday.
Daryl Fish sustained a major head injury after his eastbound four-wheel ATV left a traveled portion of a roadway, flipping a single time, according to evidence on the scene gathered by Michigan State Police troopers from the L'Anse detachment.
The driver was not wearing a helmet and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
Also assisting at the scene were Arvon Township First Responders, Bay Ambulance and First Choice Towing.
The incident marks the second ATV fatality locally in little more than a month.
Jon Virtanen, 49, of Toivola, died as the result of a four-wheel ATV accident on July 8 near Toivola. His vehicle appeared to have failed to negotiate a corner about a half-mile west of Agate Beach Road and rolled over into a ditch.
Virtanen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
