The Daily Mining Gazette

EAGLE RIVER - Authorities in Keweenaw County have arrested one person on drug charges and seized a significant quantity of marijuana.

In a press release, the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Department said they conducted an investigation Monday that resulted in the confiscation of more than 15 pounds of marijuana.

The Sheriff's office said that based on information received from National Park Service Rangers on Isle Royale, a search warrant was obtained for a residence in Grant Township near the town of Copper Harbor.

A search was conducted by the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Department along with National Park Service Rangers. The search resulted in the recovery of about 15 pounds of processed and loose marijuana, 34 plants and the equipment used in what police called an extensive grow operation.

The owner of the residence was arrested and lodged in the Keweenaw County Jail. The suspect's name is being withheld pending arraignment in district court.
