ONTONAGON - Five people were hospitalized as the result of two separate motorcycle accidents that occurred Saturday morning in Ontonagon County.
According to the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department, the first accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday on County Road. 107 near the South Boundary Road.
A motorcycle driven by Collin Werth of New Franken, Wis., was traveling on County Road. 107 when he missed the turn onto Boundary Road. He slowed and was attempting to make a U-turn when he was struck by another motorcycle driven by David Blackman of Green Bay, Wis.
Blackman told deputies he had taken his eye off the road to look at the scenery and saw Werth slowing to make a U-turn but was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the cycle on the left side.
Both motorcycles had passengers and deputies said all occupants were ejected from the motorcycles.
Werth and his passenger Carol Werth and Blackman and his passenger Lori Blackman were taken by Sonco ambulance to Aspirus Ontonagon for treatment.
The second motorcycle accident occurred about two hours later on M-28 near Finn Town Road.
Deputies said a motorcycle driven by Andrew Peterson of Island Lake, Ill. was traveling on M-28 when the rear tire on the bike blew.
Peterson lost control of the cycle and tipped over.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Terry Peterson, was injured as a result of the accident and transported to Aspirus Grand View hospital in Ironwood.
Both motorcycle accidents remain under investigation.
