HOUGHTON - The Houghton-Portage Township Schools Board of Education approved a one-year contract with the teachers union at its meeting Monday.
Teachers will receive a salary increase of approximately 2 percent, said Superintendent Doreen Klingbeil. There were no changes to health care.
"We're pretty pleased to get it settled," she said.
Teachers are expected to meet today to vote on ratifying the contract.
In other action, the board:
approved hiring teachers for the 2013-14 school year: Kristin Mechlin for fourth grade, Deb Zei for high school math, Megan Tomasek for elementary special education and Greg Campbell for elementary and middle school special education.
approved hiring coaches: Frank Bonacorsi for junior varsity football, Anna Bradfish for ninth-grade volleyball and Stacey Donnelly as assistant for cross country.
approved continuing the use of Great Marks for Schools for the hiring of substitute teachers.
approved 2013-14 elementary, middle and high school textbooks.
