CHASSELL - At approximately 3 p.m. Friday, deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff's Department responded to a personal injury accident that occurred at the U.S. 41 and Lower Massie Road intersection in Chassell Township.

The accident occurred when a Polaris RZR side by side driven by a 13-year-old female from Chassell Township attempted to cross U.S. 41 from Lake Shore Drive to Lower Massie Road and pulled out into the path of a southbound minivan driven by 67-year-old Barbara Wells from Chassell. A total of five people were on the side by side, with ages ranging from 3 to 13. Four of the five riders were ejected from the ATV.

All five people from the ATV were transported by Mercy Ambulance to Portage Health for treatment of their injuries, along with the driver of the minivan. Two passengers in the minivan were uninjured in the crash.
