LANSING - Elaine G. Ruelle, 89, of Gwinn, died Thursday evening, August 23, 2013, while visiting her son in Lower Michigan.
She was born March 16, 1924, in Hancock, and was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Augusta (Brohn) Verville. She was a 1942 Hancock High School graduate.
On October 9, 1948, she married John J. Ruelle, Jr. at St. Joseph Church in Hancock. John preceded her in death on May 26, 2009.
Elaine was employed as an operator at Michigan Bell in Houghton before moving with her family to Sault Ste. Marie and working in the office for Vollwerth Meat Company.
Elaine was a member of St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette and was a member of various committees in the church. For many years she was also devoted to spending time in adoration.
She enjoyed her time spent with family and will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great & great-great-grandmother.
Elaine is survived by her two children, Richard "Dick" (Debbie) Ruelle of Dewitt, Mich., and Terri Corr of Gwinn; six grandchildren, Todd (Kim) Ruelle, Michael Ruelle, Amy (Joe) Turko, Jim (Michelle) Corr, Stephanie (Jeff) Milner and Christie (Mike) Haag; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor & Morgan Ruelle, Korey, Dustin (Alyssa) & Evan Milner, Jayger & Mikena Haag and Jackson & Jenna Turko; great-great-grandchild, Alaena Milner; sisters, Joyce Lenz of Venice, Fla., and Frederica Verville of Hancock; special nephew, Michael J. (Cindy) Ruelle of Houghton; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. where a parish prayer service will take place at 5 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Burial will take place at 2:45 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Pallbearers will be Jim Corr, Todd Ruelle, Michael Ruelle, Mike Haag, Jeff Milner and Joe Turko. A nephew, Mike Ruelle, will serve as an honorary bearer.
