EBEN JUNCTION - The Hancock cross-country team claimed its first meet victory in recent history Saturday, prevailing over a six-team field on both sides of the Superior Central Invitational.
On the girls' side, Hancock accumulated 27 points, 12 better than Munising.
Abbey Tembruell finished second in 22 minutes, 32 seconds, 19 seconds off the pace of individual winner Marissa Immel of Munising.
The Bulldogs had three other runners finish in the top 10, including fifth-place Kaylor Holmstrom (24:22), seventh-place Ashley Aho (24:59) and 10th-place Madisyn Wright (25:45).
On the boys' side, Hancock's 34 points were half that of second-place Munising.
Depth mattered big-time for Hancock, as its four best runners all placed in the top eight less than a minute apart.
The best finisher was Hayden Heikkinen in fourth (19:52), with Gabe Rupright (20:24) and Jacob Jarvis (20:28) on his heels. Travis Besner was eighth in 20:48.
The individual winner was Brett Hannah of Munising (18:28).
