HANCOCK - Gordon F. Berryman, 81, a resident of Hancock passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013.
He was born on April 1, 1932, in Laurium, a son of the late Roy and Ruth (Munch) Berryman. Gordy graduated from the Calumet High School with the class of 1951.
Following graduation, he worked for Melford Trading Company before beginning a career in law enforcement, which spanned 49 1/2 years. He was employed with the Calumet Township Police Department, the Laurium Police Department, Hancock Police Department and retired from Houghton County Sheriff's Department. Gordy was the longest serving police officer in Houghton County. He then worked part-time for the Calumet Township and Laurium Police Departments. He also was employed with Mercy Ambulance for 18 1/2 years.
On April 26, 1980, he was united in marriage to the former Sharon Destrampe.
Gordy enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and target shooting.
Preceding him in death were his son, Scott Congdon; his parents; his brothers, Robert, Clyde and Harold; and his sisters, June Morenz, Barbara Nissen, Fern Bessner and Emily.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Berryman of Hancock; his children, Darrell (Cherese) Congdon of Palm Harbor, Fla., Linda (Michael) Williamson of Charleston, NC., Carole (Steven) Partanen of Ishpeming; his grandchildren, Heather Conner, Jessica Congdon, Scott F. Congdon, Matthew Narhi, Jason Congdon, Sharon Puuri and Levi Puuri; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ronald (Donna) Berryman of Grand Blanc, Mich.; his sister, Faye Berryman of Calumet; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock for a time to remember Gordy.
