Finlandia, Northland split soccer twinbill

September 12, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

HANCOCK - Finlandia's men's soccer team upped its record to 3-2 on the season Wednesday as Josue Yanez's early second-half goal held up in a 1-0 decision over Northland College at McAfee Field.

The visiting Lumberjacks had both of the only two shots on target in the first half, but goalkeeper Miguel Gamez saved both, as well as two more in the second half, for his third shutout of the season.

Finlandia upped the offensive pressure, putting four more shots on frame without a goal.

The women's game was not as successful for the Lions, as Finlandia fell 4-0 despite seven saves from goalie Alexis Coll.

Both Finlandia teams are in action at home Saturday against Robert Morris University-Lake County.
