Lakes, Kings cruise

LAKE LINDEN - Lake Linden-Hubbell rolled to victory in its home opener Thursday, sweeping Ontonagon 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-10) in Mountain Lakes Conference play.

Ciara Larson led LL-H with nine kills, while Sarah Audette set up 13 assists.

In the opening set, LL-H got seven aces (two apiece from Carli Ongie and Erin Gast) and seven kills (three apiece from Larson and Julia Hendrickson). Gast served 10 straight points to help LL-H to put the second set away, while eight LL-H aces, including four from Audette helped finish the match off.

Gast led LL-H with 16 digs. Larson added 14.

LL-H is scheduled to host Ewen-Trout Creek Tuesday.

Calumet 3, Chassell 0

CALUMET - Five Calumet players had at least five kills apiece as the Copper Kings took out Chassell in their home opener, 25-10, 25-11, 25-18.

Leading the way was Alisa Storm, who had seven kills against just two errors. Loretta Anderson notched seven of her own, while Ellen Twardzik and Lexie Rowe each had six and Carissa Pavolich five.

The diverse offense came from the hand of junior setter Terilynne Budreau, who had 30 assists.

Defensively, Catherine Frantti (nine digs) and Megan Yeo (eight) paced the back row.

Calumet plays Saturday in a tournament at Ashwaubenon, Wis.
