OSCEOLA?TOWNSHIP - A Calumet man was killed Friday afternoon when the moped he was driving crashed.
Troopers at the Calumet Post of the Michigan State Police said in a press release the accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Friday on M-26 near Junction Road in Osceola Township, near Mason.
Police identified the victim as Martin Locatelli, 65, of Calumet.

A Michigan State Police trooper works the scene of a motorcycle accident on M-26 near Mason Friday afternoon. In a press release police said the driver of the moped, 65-year-old Martin Locatelli of Calumet, died as a result of injuries he suffered as a result of the accident. Police say he lost control of the vehicle and crashed on the roadway. The accident remains under investigation.
Officers said Locatelli was driving the moped northbound on M-26 when he lost control and crashed the moped in the roadway.
He was taken by Mercy Ambulance to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.
Police said in the press release Locatelli did not survive the accident.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of accident and alcohol is not believed to be a factor according to police. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, Osceola Township First Responders, Tamarack City Fire Dept and Mercy Ambulance.
The accident remains under investigation.
