HANCOCK - The Finlandia women's soccer team claimed its first victory of 2013 Saturday, while the Finlandia men had their first draw.
The Lion women dropped Robert Morris-Lake County (Ill.) by a 2-0 score, while the schools' men's teams tied 1-1.
Finlandia peppered the RMU goal throughout the women's game, with 36 shots, requiring nine saves.
Haley Neri delivered the breakthrough goal unassisted in the 66th minute and was followed by a 72nd minute tally from Julia Manninen.
Alexis Coll made three saves in the win for Finlandia, now 1-5.
In the men's game, the visitors scored in the 19th minute before Finlandia grabbed the equalizer through Jaime Cuevas in the 84th.
Play was nearly even, with both sides putting eight shots on frame. Miguel Gamez made seven saves.
The Finlandia women host Rockford Tuesday, while both Lion teams are at Lakeland Thursday.
Finlandia added a win to its volleyball record in a quadrangular at Alverno College in Milwaukee this weekend.
The Lions topped North Central (Minn.) in four sets, winning the last three comfortably after a 30-28 defeat in the opener.
Augustine Brutus had 18 kills in the win, while four players had double-digit digs.
Friday, the Lions lost a pair of close ones, falling 3-2 to Alverno after losing the fifth set 15-12, then 3-1 to Kuyper in a match in which all four sets were decided by four points or less.
Three more Lions had at least 10 digs against Alverno, while Katelyn Anderson had 20 assists and Brutus 10 kills. In the Kuyper match, Brutus had 10 kills and Emma Cole nine.
Finlandia (2-10) plays at Wisconsin-Marinette Saturday.
