Gremlins make clean sweep of triangular

HOUGHTON - Houghton grabbed its first win of the season in WestPAC volleyball Tuesday, sweeping L'Anse 3-0 as part of a home triangular.

The Gremlins also swept Dollar Bay 2-0.

The Purple Hornets didn't go home empty-handed, winning both sets against the Bays to go home 1-1.

In the win over L'Anse, the Gremlins got eight kills and eight digs from Elisa Jurmu. Sydney Dillinger led Houghton with 17 digs, while Mirand Hillstrom added 12. Kenna Farrey posted 16 assists.

Against the Bays, Dillinger had five kills, while Emma Huhta pitched in four kills and a team-best seven aces. Anna Humes and Ashley Turner both contributed two kills. Farrey had 16 assists.

Hancock 3, West Iron County 1

IRON RIVER - Hancock climbed to 2-1 in WestPAC play by taking down the Wykons in four sets.

No further statistics were available.

Hancock travels to Chassell for a non-league match Thursday night.

Chassell 3, Ewen-Trout Creek 0

EWEN - Chassell grabbed the Mountain Lakes Conference sweep, winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-13.

Chassell spread its offense around, as Annie Ruohonen, Katrina Kangas, Shelby Seppanen and Maddy Huhta all had four kills apiece.

Sara Kilpela and Karli Michaels both tallied eight digs and Lindsey Johnson had a team-best eight assists.

Ontonagon 3, Wakefield-Marenisco 2

ONTONAGON?- The Gladiators outlasted the Cardinals in a non-league match Tuesday night.

After dropping the first set 25-22, Ontonagon came back to win the next two 25-10 and 25-18.

The Cardinals responded with a 25-18 edge in set four, but the Gladiators controlled set five 15-8 for the narrow win.

The Gladiators are idle until an Oct. 3 trip to Chassell.
