Dollar Bay wins five-setter; LL-H, Houghton sweep

DOLLAR BAY - Dollar Bay claimed a five-set win over Watersmeet Thursday night on the volleyball court.

The Bays outlasted the Nimrods 3-2 (25-18, 9-25, 13-25, 25-17, 15-12).

Carli Daavettila led offensively with nine kills, while Julia Daavettila posted five kills and 15 assists.

From the service line, the Bays got seven aces from Olivia Hokenson.

Lake Linden-Hubbell 3,

Ewen-Trout Creek 0

EWEN - The Lakes had no trouble continuing their perfect record in Mountain Lakes Conference play with a 25-11, 25-8, 25-9 sweep of the Panthers.

Erin Gast handed off libero responsibilities to Morgan Lassila and had a solid outing, with a team-high seven digs and six aces, plus three kills.

Ciara Larson led the LL-H offense with seven kills, while Sarah Audette added four kills, six digs and four aces to finish second on the team in all three categories.

"We played a tough game tonight. We have really been working on communicating and covering the open court. We had some great defensive digs and a couple good rallies, but we have our work cut out for us. I am looking forward to strengthening our weaknesses and perfecting our strengths," E-TC coach Amber Pearsall said.

Houghton 3,

West Iron County 0

IRON RIVER - The Gremlins followed the long trip with a short match Thursday, sweeping WestPAC rival West Iron 25-18, 25-14, 25-12.

The win ups Houghton's record to .667 on both fronts: 2-1 in the WestPAC and 16-8 overall.

Elisa Jurmu had a solid night on both offense and defense. She had a team-best seven kills and four blocks and co-led the Gremlins with 13 digs. Also posting 13 digs were Sydney Dillinger and Miranda Hillstrom. Dillinger also had five kills and two blocks.

Kenna Farrey had a pair of aces and 11 assists, while Jada Riutta and Ashlyn Kero contributed three kills apiece.

The Gremlins are back in action Thursday at home vs. Hancock.
