Houghton police investigate suspicious death

HOUGHTON - The Houghton Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of an 84-year-old woman Saturday.

About 11 a.m., officers found what appeared to be a breaking and entering at a residence, where the woman was found dead.

Police are investigating a person of interest in the death. Houghton police removed a person from the Douglass House Apartments around 3:50 p.m. and put him in a police vehicle, which shortly after headed to the Houghton County Jail. Officers were at the apartments for much of the day.

The Houghton Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, the Hancock Police Department and Michigan Technological University Public Safety.
