HOUGHTON - The Houghton Police Department has arrested a suspect in the suspicious death of an 84-year-old woman Saturday.

Houghton police take a man, identified only as a person of interest, into custody from the Douglass House Apartments Saturday afternoon. Police said the body of an 84-year-old woman was found in her apartment after an apparent breaking and entering Saturday morning. The Houghton Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, the Hancock Police Department and Michigan Technological University Department of Public Safety and Police Services.
About 11 a.m., officers found what appeared to be a breaking and entering at a residence at the Douglass House Apartments, where the woman was found dead.
Houghton police removed a person from the Douglass House Apartments around 3:50 p.m. Saturday and put him in a police vehicle, which shortly after headed to the Houghton County Jail. Officers were at the apartments for much of the day.
The Houghton Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, the Hancock Police Department and Michigan Technological University Public Safety.
Police are seeking warrants through the Houghton County Prosecuting Attorney's office. Police Chief John Donnelly was unavailable for further comment this morning.
