HOUGHTON - The Daily Mining Gazette was recently recognized by the Michigan Press Association for its sports coverage as part of MPA's 2013 Better Newspaper Contest.
The DMG's sports coverage, managed by Sports Editor Brandon Veale and including content from Sports Writers Michael Bleach, Stephen Anderson, photographer David Archambeau and former sports editor Paul Peterson, received third place in its circulation category.
Results of the contest were announced this week as part of National Newspaper Week.
The judging panel from the Nebraska Press Association described the DMG's submitted sections as "clean and appealing. The color - in particular the bold images above the fold - pop. Solid coverage, all around."
The DMG's sports section was recognized by MPA in 2008 and 2010 and Veale has won three awards for writing in 2009 and 2010.
"My goal with the Daily Mining Gazette sports section has always been to provide our readers with a comprehensive glimpse of what's going on throughout the Copper Country sports world. I'm happy to know MPA has recognized us for achieving this goal," Veale said.
