LAURIUM - Roger E. Kinonen, a resident of Laurium, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Marquette General Hospital.
He was born on February 10, 1942, in Calumet, a son of the late Albert and Bertha (Maatta) Kinonen. Roger was a graduate of Calumet High School with the Class of 1961.
Roger was a veteran having served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1961-1965. He was employed at the Paulson Ford Garage in Calumet and in 1967 started his Union sheet metal apprenticeship. After his apprenticeship he began working as a sheet metal worker for Local 7, a local sheet metal union. He was employed by Local 7 for 33 years.
Roger enjoyed woodworking. He was a handy person to have around and he could fix anything. Project after project Roger was ready for the task. Roger also loved spending time with his dogs. Roger was a quiet man but left a large footprint on lives of the people who loved him.
On October 12, 1968, Roger married Joyce Moyle in the Laurium Methodist Church.
Preceding Roger in death were his brother, James Kinonen; his beloved dog, Harley; and a bird, Floyd.
Surviving are wife, Joyce; daughters, Audra (Mike) Kohler of Marquette, and Carolyn Brecht of Calumet; sons, Gregory of Marquette, and Eric (Katie Zillmer) Kinonen of Oshkosh, Wis.; four grandchildren, Austin, Rylan, Mason, Grace; dog, Steve; two sisters, Janet Mauno of Marquette, and Sandy Palosaari of Houghton; sister-in-law, Char Kinonen of Oregon; special friends, Dale (Carol) Plante of Calumet.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. October 30, 2013 in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Bob White to officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
