U.P. is back on Obama’s map

Initial White House Medicaid map omitted Upper Michigan

CRYSTAL FALLS (AP) - The U.P. is back on the map.

MLive.com says a map that the White House put up on the Web showing which states were expanding Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act was showing an outline of Michigan that omitted the Upper Peninsula.

Michigan is among the states that are expanding Medicaid under the health care law.

This graphic, put out by the White House last week, shows states who have not expanded Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act. While Michigan is not among those states, the map caused a stir because only one of the state’s two peninsulas was shown.

Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek of Crystal Falls says that "considering that President Obama visited the U.P." in recent years, it would make sense for him to include it on his website's map.

And somebody at the White House apparently got the message, because the map now includes both Michigan peninsulas.
