Car-pedestrian accident leaves woman dead

WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP - A vehicle striking a pedestrian resulted in death for a 49-year-old woman, Wednesday, according to a written statement from the Gogebic County Sheriff's Office.

At about 8:48 p.m., deputies responded to the scene after an 18-year-old woman contacted central dispatch to report she struck a pedestrian on U.S. 2 at the intersection of Mikado Road. The woman struck was killed on impact.

An accident investigator from the Gogebic County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, also. The accident is under investigation, so no names are being released at this time.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield post and Beacon Ambulance personnel.
