DULUTH, Minn. - Two goals in 14 seconds propelled St. Scholastica to a 4-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win over Finlandia Saturday.
The goals, scored midway through the second period, broke a 1-1 tie. Brandon Nowakowski's second of the game gave the Saints a lead, while Chad Golanowski tallied right after for a 3-1 lead. Dylan Nowakowski added an insurance goal midway through the third.
After Brandon Nowakowski gave CSS the lead just 29 seconds into the game Jared Vincek recorded his first collegiate goal for the Lions, keeping the game even for about 28 minutes of play.
Troy Chandler stopped 41 shots for the Lions, who generated 20 of their own.
The Lions (0-6, 0-4 NCHA) are at Lake Forest College next weekend.
A 2-0 lead after two period didn't hold up for the Finlandia women's hockey team in a 3-2 defeat at Marian in Fond du Lac, Wis., Saturday.
Elizaveta Monakhova scored unassisted at 8:15 of the second period to give Finlandia (0-6, 0-6 NCHA) the lead, and Siera Hache grabbed her third goal of the season with 47 seconds left in the period for a 2-0 edge.
It lasted past the halfway point of the period, but Nina Laurie netted back-to-back goals for the Sabres in a 2:41 span to tie it before Rian Lennon's game-winner with 2:22 to play.
Breanna Merriam made 19 saves for Finlandia, which had 20 shots.
Finlandia is idle until a home series Dec. 6-7 against Lake Forest.
