Carlota Raye Beauprey

ASSININS, Mich. - Carlota Raye Beauprey, 65, of Assinins, Mich., passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

She was born in Assinins, Mich., on June 2, 1948, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Leone (LaCosse) Denomie. Carlota grew up in Assinins, graduated from Baraga High School and attended Ojibwa Community College and Michigan Technological University. On August 12, 1985, she married Joe Beauprey in Newport, R.I. Carlota worked for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community for several years and served on the KBIC Education Commitee and Indian Child Welfare Committee. She was appointed by Governor Engler to the Michigan Commission on Indian Affairs and served on the Michigan Child Abuse and Prevention Board and Children's Trust Fund. She also served as Chairperson for the Board of Regents for Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College, and was a member of the regional Job Training Partnership Board. Carlota was a member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, Keweenaw Bay Indian community, and the Ojibwa Seniors.

Carlota is survived by her loving husband, Joe; children, Paul DesRochers, Stacey (Dan) Koski, Matthew (Shannon) DesRochers of Baraga and Joan DesRochers of Negaunee, Bob (Jean) Beauprey and Tony (Kristi) Beauprey of Sidnaw and Jerita LaPlante of Covington; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Marilyn) Denomie and Lawrence (Ann) Denomie both of Assinins, Mich.; sisters, Deloris Eberl and Betty (Gordon) Villwock both of Milwaukee; special nephew and nieces, Robert Genschow, JoAnne Racette, Debbie Parrish and Darlene Genschow. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan Bemis and Patricia Imig.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2013, in Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins, Mich., with Father Nick Thompson, celebrant.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Following the Mass, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Ojibwa Senior Citizens in Baraga.

Spring interment will take place in the Sidnaw Cemetery.

Mrs. Beauprey's obituary may also be viewed and condolences sent to the family at rfsc.net.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel in L'Anse has been entrusted with the arrangements.
