The Daily Mining Gazette

L'ANSE - A two-car accident Tuesday resulted in serious injuries for a South Range woman, according to a written statement from the Baraga County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., a northbound vehicle driven by 19-year-old Brittany Nicholas crossed the centerline after Nicholas lost control on the icy road striking a southbound vehicle driven by 64-year-old Diane Risku of Watton.

Both drivers were taken by Bay Ambulance to Baraga County Memorial Hospital. Risku was treated and released, but Nicholas was taken to Marquette General Hospital where she was listed in critical condition as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Sheriff's deputies were also assisted at the scene by the Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police and the L'Anse Fire and Rescue Jaws of Life.
