God’s message is controversial

November 29, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

God's message of the truth is controversial. Man considers it to be dangerous. It poisons the hope for mankind's evolutionary betterment. Strange-it is not-that Jesus when He was yet a baby, Herod the Great was after His life. God's counsel to his "judges," then and now is, "Be wise now, therefore, O ye kings; be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and yet perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they who put their trust in him." (Ps. 2). Our safety from the wrath of God-yet to appear-is in the wounds of Jesus. Our danger is in holding on to our idolatrous self-sufficiency and rebellious stubbornness.

We trust more in the conclusions of reason then the word and promises of God. Reason, which cannot and will not believe in anything supernatural. And yet: only God can reveal God. And this, whenever and wherever he so wills to those who hear the Gospel. To such, who at God's terms acknowledge their sinfulness and unworthiness before God at his throne of mercy (Luke 23:39-43).

In Iran, Christian pastor Saeed Abedini is jailed by the Muslims with an added bonus-his medical needs are denied. But he is there with...Jesus. Many of his fellow Muslim prisoners are being converted-it is reported-in believing God's words for life. Here, at home, in the midst of Christian crosses, Christians are restricted more and more by the powers that are, as to where and when they can testify God's truth.

We read skeptical articles, like the ones in the "DMG" about God and Christian beliefs by critical antagonists who love to rile up their believing opponents.

God knows if it is done to pacify one's conscience, or if these articles are expressions of hardened, self-serving heart. Be it as it may, God's word provides ample occasions for men to stumble, to get offended and mad. Christianity is a historical fact. And as such, God-facts (salvation-truths) should not be twisted to be what they are not. Christians uplift Christ of the Bible, not the fabricated man-made-saviors molded to be "likable" to the reason of man...learned or unlearned...religious or irreligious (1 Cor. 1:21-31).
