Brittany M. Nicholas

SOUTH RANGE - Brittany M. Nicholas, 19, a resident of South Range passed away Wednesday evening, November 27, 2013, at the Marquette General Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident.

She was born on October 3, 1994, in Hancock, a daughter of Steve and Melissa (Ruhter) Nicholas. Brittany was raised in South Range and graduated from Jeffers High School with the class of 2012. She was very active in school being involved with the National Honor Society, Student Senate, she was a past captain of the school's golf team and a former school cheerleader. Britt also helped teach Spanish to the third grade class at the Jeffers School. Currently, Brittany was enrolled at Northern Michigan University and was transferring to Michigan Tech to pursue a degree in secondary education.

Brittany was employed with the Rogers Cinema at the Copper Country Mall and also Country Lanes in Ishpeming while she attended college.

Brittany was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range, where she loved to sing and play her guitar. She also volunteered with the Local Relay for Life.

Her grandfather George Nicholas preceded her in death.

Surviving are her parents, Steve and Melissa Nicholas of South Range; her brothers, Justin (and special friend Erica LeClaire) Nicholas of South Range, Zachary (and special friend Eden Klemett) Nicholas of South Range, Tanner Nicholas of South Range; her longtime boyfriend, Damion Johnson of Houghton; her paternal grandmother, Wanda Nicholas of Hancock; her maternal grandparents, Milton and Lois Ruhter of Brownsdale, Minn.; her aunts and uncles, Darrell Nicholas of Hancock, Scott (Shelly) Nicholas of Hancock, Gayle (Joe) Vargas of Mountain Home, Idaho, Carol (David) Hutchinson of Spring Valley, Minn., Doug (Barb) Ruhter of Bixby, Minn., Burton (MaryAnn) Ruhter of Brownsdale, Minn., Audrey Thorpe of Austin, Minn.; numerous cousins and many, many close friends.

A memorial service for Brittany will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in the Grace Lutheran Church in South Range with Revs. Bucky Beach and Sally Wilke to officiate.

Friends may call on Monday, December 2, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock.
