HOUGHTON - Dorothy M. Madigan, 90, a resident of Houghton, passed away early Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, 2013, at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, where she had been a patient for the past day.
She was born on August 11, 1923, in Houghton, a daughter of the late Adolph and Estelle (Edgerton) Laux. Dorothy was a graduate of the Houghton High School.
In 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Vincent Madigan of Schenectady, N.Y.
Mrs. Madigan was a secretary working for General Electric in New York, retiring after 32 years.
Dorothy was always an active person working to keep healthy and fit. She also enjoyed visiting the sick and elderly. Dorothy also helped care for her mother and her brother Rudy during their ill times.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, Ann Hafkemeyer, Mary Montgomery & Marbeth Jakovich; brothers, James, Corbin, and Rudy.
Surviving are her brother, Jack (Donna) Laux of Atlantic Mine; brother-in-law, Joe Jakovich of Houghton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. Kenneth Toth to officiate.
Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Friends may call on Friday, December 6, 2013, from 10 a.m. until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Crippled Children's Fund in memory of Dorothy Madigan.
