CALUMET - John Paul Paavola, 72, a resident of Calumet Township, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
He was born October 25, 1941, a son of John and Mary (Picciano) Paavola in Keweenaw Bay. He attended Keweenaw Bay and Baraga Schools.
John worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Houghton County Road Commission. He was a veteran having served with the US Army in the 1960's.
On April 16, 1992, he married the former Pat Eustice in Eagle River.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an aunt, Viola Kangas.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; a daughter, Jamie (Zach) Mleko of Colorado; stepchildren, Valerie (Bob) Learmont of Hartland, Mich., Frank Balma of Lansing, Mich., Curtis Balma of Tenn., and Victor (Jocelyn) Petaja of Kearsarge; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Pauline Lanala of Houghton; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services.
Spring burial will take place in the Lake View Cemetery.
