HANCOCK - Finlandia's men's hockey team recorded its first point of the season Friday at Houghton County Arena in a 3-3 non-conference tie with Wisconsin-Superior.

Kevin Smith scored the equalizing goal at 9:29 of the third to make it 3-3.

Andrew Brownlee made a big difference in goal for the Lions, stopping 39 shots, including four in OT.

Finlandia took the lead just 26 seconds in through Travis Armstrong and doubled it at 3:52 when Thomas Kerr scored, but the visiting Yellowjackets put in three in a row, tying it at 4:48 of the second and taking the lead on a power-play goal at 8:46.

Smith's goal, his first of the season, helped the Lions break their 10-game losing streak.

The teams go at it again today at 4 p.m.
