MOHAWK - Gladstone Thomas Curtis Sr., 83, a resident of Mohawk, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born January 5, 1930, in Copper City, a son of Henry and Rose (Sundberg) Curtis. He attended the Copper City School. He worked in the C&H Mines until their closing and then as a carpenter for local companies. In 1965 he moved to Kenosha, Wis., and worked there as a custodian until retiring in 1992 and moving back to Mohawk.
Gladstone loved the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed working on the house doing various projects. He attended the Mohawk United Methodist Church.
On October 8, 1955, he married the former Evelyn Carlson in Calumet.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Michael Curtis, Gladstone Curtis, Jr. and Steven Curtis, all of Kenosha, Wis.; daughters, Merrilee (Jim) Strickland of Alvin, Texas, and Linda (Ken) Martin of Kenosha, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, Rebecca, Caleb, Elizabeth, April, Melissa, Jeanette and Jonathan; several great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter, Alexandra; one brother, Fortunate (Nathleen) Curtis of Florida.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Bob White officiating.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Spring Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
