E-TC girls rally on road

December 17, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

WAKEFIELD - Ewen-Trout Creek came from behind to win for the first time this season, outscoring Wakefield-Marenisco 16-9 in the fourth quarter for a 47-42 Porcupine Mountain Conference victory.

"It feels very good and a little nerve-wracking," E-TC coach Jacky Besonen said to the Daily Globe of Ironwood. "We played better man-to-man defense and did not have many mental breakdowns. Our help defense was much better and Casey (Suomumaki) was in their face and made it hard to get up the floor."

Sisters Taylor and Molly Niemi both played a major role. Taylor knocked down all four of the Panthers' 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points, while Molly scored 10 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Rachel Obradovich paced the 0-3 (0-1 PMC) Cardinals with 10 points.

E-TC (1-3, 1-1 PMC) is at Ironwood Thursday.
