FLORIDA LOCATION, LAURIUM- Paul Bruce Backstrom, 90, a resident of Florida Location, passed away Wednesday evening, January 15, 2014.
He was born at home September 14, 1923 in Florida Location, a son of Martin John and Kate (Ala-Tarvis) Backstrom. Paul attended Charles Briggs and John Duncan schools. He was in the CC Camps (Camp Bonifas). Paul worked as a crane operator for C&H and as a heavy-equipment operator for CCI, retiring in 1985. He lived his entire life in Florida Location except for five years that he spent in Milwaukee.
In March of 1946 he married Bertha Mattson from Boston Location.
Paul was a Veteran, having served with the US Navy Armed Guards during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his 11 siblings; and a son, David in 1988. Paul was "Uncle Paul" to Carl "Scuppy" Backstrom.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha; daughters, Linda Backstrom of Florida, Brenda-Ann (Rick) Kirschner of Texas, and Maryel Backstrom of Florida Location (previously of Florida); one granddaughter, Kate Kirschner of Texas; nieces Lenore Seymour, Dorothy Bays, Sue Gregorich, Jean Marie Buschell, and Wende Jonas Hill; and nephews, John Backstrom and Paulie Edward Solomonson.
Visitation will be held 1-3 P.M., with funeral services to follow on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. Pastor Peter Vorhes will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
