BARAGA - L'Anse continued its dominance of county rival Baraga Thursday, scoring 31 points in the first quarter of a 73-36 non-league win.

L'Anse scored 30 points in the first quarter of a double-digit win when the teams first met in December.

"Their press shook us up right away. It was tenacious pressure, and we didn't handle it very well. Other games we have and tonight, we struggled," Baraga coach Daryl Putala said.

Though the Lady Vikings (1-10) and Hornets (10-1) both recorded 23 points in the second half, L'Anse's 50-13 halftime lead was more than enough.

Madi Swanson led all scorers with 20 points. Kelsey Ross added 17 for L'Anse, which plays five WestPAC games in its next six starting with a home showdown against Houghton Monday.

Baraga got 12 points from Melissa Putala and is at Ewen-Trout Creek tonight.

Watersmeet 35, Chassell 30 (2OT)

CHASSELL - Chassell held Watersmeet off the board for more than 12 minutes but couldn't collect a reward for it Thursday, as a Jessica Barajas three helped the Nimrods win in double overtime.

Chassell, which trailed 26-18 at the half, held Watersmeet without a point in the fourth quarter and the first overtime, but Chassell got only enough points to tie the game in regulation and was also shut out in both extra periods.

Barajas connected to break the deadlock midway through the second OT, and Watersmeet tacked on a pair of free throws for the final margin. For Chassell, Kirsten Daavettila scored 11 points. The Panthers (3-9) host Baraga Monday.
