Child struck by car

January 24, 2014
The Daily Mining Gazette

At 4:56 p.m. Friday the Houghton County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury accident in Franklin Township.

A Jeep Cherokee traveling eastbound on Boston Cross Cut Road struck a 5-year-old child as he ran into the roadway. Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff's Office were assisted by the Michigan State Police and Mercy Ambulance.

Poor visibility, high snow banks and icy road conditions were believed to be factors in the accident. The child was transported by Mercy Ambulance to Portage Health Hospital and treated for injuries.

The Houghton County Sheriff's Office would like to remind motorists to drive according to weather conditions and be aware of pedestrians at all times. Please allow extra distance for stopping and be mindful of limited visibility due to high snow banks.
