ONTONAGON - In a non-conference make-up game, Lane Brown was too much of a force inside for Ontonagon to handle and Ewen-Trout Creek upended the Gladiators 60-41 on Thursday night.

"Lane Brown was the story of the game," Ontonagon coach Tim Nelson said. "He was dominant underneath. He had 26 points and I'd like to see how many rebounds he had. He had 12 points in the first quarter. When (Nick) Hearns was in there, we had three or four guys flailing away, but they single-handedly outrebounded us."

E-TC jumped out to a 16-5 first quarter lead and took a 29-19 lead into halftime. Nelson said Ontonagon "couldn't find the bucket in the first quarter."

Nelson said the Gladiators were able to close the gap to 10-12 points by using different traps and defenses at various times. But Ontonagon was shorthanded with only two guards available and when they got in foul trouble, the Gladiators were in big trouble.

The Panthers outscored Ontonagon 31-22 in the second half.

Things don't get any easier for Ontonagon (2-9) today as an undefeated Lake Linden team comes to town. E-TC, now 3-9, plays at Houghton tonight.

WATERSMEET - Dollar Bay fell just too far behind to catch up Thursday, coming within a shot of overcoming a 26-14 halftime deficit in Watersmeet.

After scoring 31 points in the next 16 minutes to take a brief lead inside the final minute, the Nimrods re-took the lead late and Nate Tervo's desperation three at the buzzer was off.

"We had many chances to win this game. We are improving as a team. We just need to put four solid quarters together," DB coach Jesse Kentala said.

Justin Rogan led the Bays' charge, scoring a career-high 16 points, 14 of them in the second half. Cameron Ringler added 10 for DB (0-12). The Bays are at Baraga tonight.

Rondell McKinney paced Watersmeet with 11.

LAKE LINDEN - The Hawks gave the Lakes their closest game in three weeks, but the Lakes had too much offense Thursday.

LL-H (12-0) protected its unbeaten record on the strength of 44 percent (33-of-75) field-goal shooting. Four players scored in double digits, led by Brett Poissant's double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Roose added 17 points and six boards.

The Lakes led 42-27 at the half and outscored the Hawks by narrow margins in the final two quarters as well.

Cole Beauchamp hit three triples and had 15 points for LL-H, which travels to Ontonagon tonight.
