Fire fighters work to put out a fire at a home on Misery Bay Road in Toivola Monday afternoon. The fire began around noon, and resulted in a “total loss” of the building, said Dave Mattila of the Adams Township Fire Department. There were no injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire and its point of origin are unknown at this time and the state fire marshal has not been contacted, Mattila said. Fire fighters cleared the scene around 7 p.m. and returned about 10 p.m. to fight a flareup. Also responding were the Toivola, Twin Lakes, South Range, Hurontown, Stanton Township fire departments, Mercy EMS, Upper Peninsula Power Co., Houghton County Road Commission, American Red Cross and neighborhood residents.
