BELLAIRE - The Houghton/Hancock girls' ski team took its performance to a new level Monday, winning the MHSAA Division 2 regional meet at Schuss Mountain.
Houghton/Hancock finished even with runner-up Petoskey in slalom, but 16 points better in giant slalom for the top position with 51 overall points.
The result puts the H/H team into the state finals at Nub's Nob in Harbor Springs Feb. 24.
H/H's Jenna Stein finished first over two giant slalom runs with a combined time of 51.46 seconds. She was the first of five local skiers in the top 12, with Leslie Hamar in fourth, Martine Lovaas in seventh, Ellie Lucier 11th and Mary Maroste 12th.
H/H put three into the top 10 in slalom, with Hamar third, Stein fourth and Lovaas sixth.
On the boys' side, H/H finished 10th, but Jacob Jarvis did qualify as an individual.
Jarvis used a stellar second run to jump from seventh to fourth in the GS. He also improved in the second run of slalom by a large margin, jumping from 14th after the first run to seventh.
